Al Faleh Educational Holding Q.P.S.C. Celebrates World Autism Awareness Day in Doha Academy Salwa School.
Al Faleh Educational Holding Q.P.S.C. has celebrated World Autism Awareness Day in Doha Academy Salwa School. The 2023 edition was held on April 2nd, 2023, and the action-oriented campaign promoted and enhanced awareness, acceptance and understanding of autism among students and staff.
In recognition of World Autism Day, Al Faleh Educational Holding spotlights the talents of its colleagues in this community and reinforces the importance of neurodiversity inclusion. The day provided an opportunity for the school to explore ways with external partners to better support students with autism.
“As a prominent provider of education in the State of Qatar, offering high quality educational services, we are always seeking ways to play an active role in society and raise awareness of the ongoing challenges that autism can present with social interaction and communication,” said Head of Salwa School, Ms. Emma Field. “The efforts made by Qatar are visible and gaining every support from the Government, as it was first proposed by Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, to the United Nations in 2007, and was adopted without a vote by the UN General Assembly. The first World Autism Awareness Day was then initially celebrated on April 2, 2008.”
This year’s activities focused on a number of initiatives starting from hosting guest speaker Ms. Reshmi Memon, Clinical Lead at the Step-by-Step Institute in Doha, as well as face painting from Qakulai Doha Artists whose designs are based around Autism Awareness symbols. In addition, Doha Academy Salwa School’s students have created an autism awareness tree, and educational assemblies were held throughout the week aimed at raising awareness and understanding for those with autism.
Mr. Edward Cooper, Principal of Doha Academy Schools, stated, “As per our shared Vision, we strive to be an accessible, all-inclusive school, so events that celebrate diversity and inclusion are fundamental to us. We are most grateful to Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser for initiating World Autism Awareness Day and look forward to recognizing it annually.” Dr Sheikha Aisha Bint Faleh Al Thani, Founder and Chairperson of Al Faleh Educational Holding Q.P.S.C. commented, “The importance of raising awareness of autism is critical. Children with ASD can reach their full potential when they are aware, accepted, and provided with the appropriate intervention and support. Embracing differences and celebrating them is essential.”
