Arts & Crafts provides students a means to build social skills and work with tactile resources to help create, fix and build their own artistic work. Fine motor skills, being motivated and reflective in outlook are some of the qualities developed within students. Co-operation and teamwork are essential when students work together – especially when working collaboratively across year groups. Following a rich Islamic history of building, architecture, geometric designs – this club certainly engenders those Islamic values and principles hailed of old.

Athletics club promotes the School’s vision by providing activities for students which develop and enhance essential skills, such as teamwork and communication. It is an opportunity for children to benefit physically and socially, playing with children across year groups. It allows for both independent and team events – children of all ages, sizes and abilities to develop personally.

In an age of increasing technology and ill-use of iPads, iPhones and game consoles, board games provides an opportunity for students to develop social skills in co-operating with others to enjoy a game. There being a variety of games on offer requires students to think independently about playing a suitable game that is inclusive of others. Sitting together is a means for them to be respectful of one another’s ability and ultimately develops a sense of team players – a willingness to participate and make a collaborative effort to achieve the game’s common goal.

Spending time sharing books in pairs or small groups allows children to select and share books they are interested in. Children who are able to read independently, can read books together in small groups or pairs. They can also read simpler books to other children in the club who are still learning to read. Join in by letting a child read to the teacher or by reading to a small group of children. Shared reading offers wonderful opportunities for children to learn from each other as well as from the adults who read with them. An education for life begins with reading.

Chess club offers independent thinkers an opportunity to be reflective and apply mental strategies to an age-old game. Providing a means of socialising, it instills in players qualities of long-term planning, tactical thinking and the Islamic value of patience.

For those artists amongst our students, or those willing to participate in creative expression – the colouring club provides a social venue aimed at developing students’ positive and reflective outlooks- a ‘can do’ attitude. It allows for developing independent work as well as participating to make a collaborative effort in achieving a common goal. An education for life is just that – to develop the ‘whole child’.

Children with a passion for food and cooking enjoy the opportunity to develop their motor skills, knowledge of food families and cooking techniques in an environment promoting respectful and responsible attitudes. The importance of working collaboratively in cooking foods, handling cooking instruments safely and responsibly whilst being enquiring learners is a part of what this ECA has to offer.

Creative writing gives children opportunities to write independently, for enjoyment and in a caring and responsible environment. The club encourages and motivates children to reflect on their own experiences and using teacher support create their own piece of writing – that they then proudly share with others. The whole process allows our pupils to be positive and reflective in their work – having a ‘can do’ attitude with a willingness to learn from their mistakes.

Team players – a willingness to participate and make a collaborative effort – is developed through student participation in DodgeBall. Other than the physical health benefits, being respectful, socialising with others and motivating teammates are all skills strengthened through participating.

Football club is promoting the School’s vision by providing activities for students which develop and enhance essential skills, such as teamwork and communication. It is an opportunity for children to benefit physically and socially, playing with children across year groups.

In developing motivated and enquiring learners – we aim to help children develop their ability to look beyond the here and now, to learn more about other cultures and instill in them a genuine interest in life-long learning. French Cinema reinforces the French language lessons students enjoy in class – in a medium enjoyable and responsible. Appropriate movies are always chosen with Islamic values and principles in mind.

For children interesting in building on their ICT lessons, developing their learning beyond the here and now – ICT club allows for students to strengthen their ICT skills and to look at practically using those skills in a modern context. With advances in technology happening all the time, an education for life most certainly includes looking at ICT.

In ensuring pupils are spiritually well-grounded in the practices and teachings of Islam – the telling of Islamic stories follows the Arab culture’s rich history in sharing through the oral tradition. Pupils benefit in both learning key Islamic values and principles but also to appreciate listening well, being respectful and having a positive and reflective outlook on life.

In developing fine motor skills and allowing for children to participate in a niche practice, Knitting Club allows for pupils to be positive and reflective in outlook. For most a new skill, we look to reinforce their ‘can do’ attitude with a willingness to learn from their mistakes. It provides a social space for children to meet and spend time with students from across year groups. Considered therapeutic, we hope to make sure our pupils become whole and well-rounded.

In broadening students’ minds and allowing for developing of fine motor skills – Lego club is an excellent opportunity for building cognitive skills, visual and spacial awareness as well as strengthening ability to work in a team, play responsibly and instill a caring attitude.

Directly linked to our school values – Maths club offers an important educational opportunity for children to develop their academic knowledge and build on their life-long study skills. Whether as a means of additional support or challenging further enquiring learners, all are welcome.

As the name suggests – while developing independent skills in sport – the club provides an opportunity for children to enhance teamwork skills, co-operation, playing responsibly and in a manner that is respectful and caring.

Done with the Islamic values and principles in mind – it allows a responsible space for children to express their creative enquiry. Being motivated and willing to participate are essential in developing ‘the whole child.’

Reading is crucial in the development of learners as reading in groups benefits children’s social and communication skills. Reading supports logical thinking and problem solving skills and it benefits learners physically – it broadens their imagination and encourages learners to role play active scenes in stories. Reading also benefits children morally as they are able to identify right from wrong. Choice in texts provides opportunities to reflect on Islamic stories with spiritual and moral lessons, as per practices and teachings of Islam.
