At Doha Academy we believe that inclusion in its true form is not merely about occupying the same space as others; it is about having a meaningful role and identity within the school society and the opportunity for self-actualization.

The Learning Support Centre is staffed by specialists within the field of Education and provides support, expert intervention and person-centered practices to ensure that all students with additional learning needs can succeed in their school careers and reach their full potential.

Our Learning Support department has five main objectives:

  • To cater for children with Different Learning Challenges (Special Educational Needs), providing an inclusive and specialized educational program (IEP)
  • To support all students within the school who have Different Learning Needs and require additional support
  • To further develop and challenge children who are Gifted and Talented
  • To foster a truly inclusive environment within the school that celebrates difference and diversity
  • To provide training to parents, teachers and other staff in the field of Different Educational Needs

We practice ‘thoughtful inclusion” by assessing individual needs and tailoring the school experience for each child. We have an on-going program of assessment, monitoring and reporting student achievements and progress. This process includes multidisciplinary co-operation amongst class teachers and learning support specialists as well as on-going close collaboration with parents to ensure that our approach to each child is comprehensive. We have an integrated approach drawing from all the most updated methodologies therefore creating an all-encompassing approach that takes into account the child’s emotional and social development as well as their academic learning.

The Head of Learning Support co-ordinates the screening of those pupils who may show signs of a previously undiagnosed learning problem. He liaises with parents, the senior leadership team and with teaching staff over appropriate classroom strategies, the provision of one-to-one support outside the classroom and examination arrangements.
