We are committed to ensuring that all students are provided with an inclusive learning environment so everyone can make the best possible progress
The Learning Support department seeks to raise the achievement, remove the barriers to learning and increase students’ ability to access the curriculum.
Responsibility for Learning Support
Learning Support at Doha Academy is the responsibility of all teachers and the needs of pupils are addressed in each subject. The SEN department works to ensure that all teachers are informed of the needs of their students so they can plan accordingly.
Identifying Learning Needs
We recognize that there are four broad areas of need to be planned for:
- Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
- Cognitive learning difficulties, including specific learning difficulties (SpLD)
- Social, emotional and mental health difficulties
- Sensory and/or physical needs
Where necessary, students are provided with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is shared with teachers and parents. This enables the SEN department to set targets and closely monitor progress.
Strategies & Provision
Staff employ a wide range of provision for students with individual needs and barriers to learning. Support is personalized to the individual learner such as:
- In-class tutoring of the student by teacher
- Peer/buddy tutoring
- Differentiated teaching – allows all students to access the work
- Extended time to complete work or shortened work assignments
- Visual, auditory and tangible learning aids
- ICT devices as an access strategy
- Task success criteria shared with the student
- ECAs – SEN Homework Club every Tuesday and Wednesday for both girls and boys
